Mechanism of Action:
TAMISTOL® is an antimicrobial drug (antiseptic). Its active ingredient, Miramistin, is a cationic surface-active agent with antimicrobial properties. The action mechanism of Miramistin involves direct hydrophobic interaction of its molecules with the lipids in microbial cell membranes, leading to membrane fragmentation and destruction.
Unlike other antiseptics, Miramistin demonstrates high selectivity for microorganisms and has minimal effect on human cell membranes due to their unique structure (longer lipid radicals in human cells limit hydrophobic interaction with Miramistin).
