"Life Without Allergy" INTERNATIONAL: A Comprehensive Approach to Managing Allergic Rhinitis

On September 18–19, 2026, the International Interdisciplinary Congress “Innovative Approaches to Specific Diagnosis and Therapy of Allergic Diseases” was held online as part of the international project “Life Without Allergy” INTERNATIONAL. The event brought together more than 4,000 physicians of various specialties, who had the opportunity to learn about modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases.

Key points

  • One of the most relevant topics of the congress was the management of patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis during the ragweed season.
  • Approaches to diagnosis and treatment were reviewed in line with ICAR 2023 and ARIA-EAACI 2024–2025.
  • Allergic rhinitis is considered within the “united airway” concept.
  • Nasomer®, a spray based on sea water, hyaluronic acid and D-panthenol, was presented as part of elimination therapy.
  • Intranasal corticosteroids remain the basic anti-inflammatory therapy, in particular mometasone furoate — the product Metaspray®.

Valartin Pharma was one of the congress partners, supporting an educational platform aimed at sharing practical experience and implementing modern approaches to the management of patients with allergic diseases.

Allergic rhinitis during the ragweed season

Among the topics that attracted considerable interest from the professional audience was the management of patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis. During the active ragweed season, effective symptom control becomes particularly relevant in practice.

The current view on pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of allergic rhinitis was the subject of the presentation “Pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of allergic rhinitis” by Inna Hohunska, Doctor of Medical Sciences, leading researcher at the Center for Allergic Diseases of the Upper Respiratory Tract of the State Institution “Prof. O.S. Kolomiichenko Institute of Otolaryngology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”.

In her presentation, Dr. Hohunska reviewed current approaches to the diagnosis, classification and treatment of allergic rhinitis in line with the international guidelines ICAR 2023 and ARIA-EAACI 2024–2025.

Allergic rhinitis is not just a matter of nasal congestion, sneezing or rhinorrhea. The disease can affect sleep, cognitive function, work capacity and the patient’s daily activities. At the same time, its course is often linked to other airway diseases. Dr. Hohunska emphasized the “united airway” concept, which considers allergic rhinitis in connection with bronchial asthma, rhinosinusitis and other respiratory diseases.

Non-pharmacological support: irrigation therapy

A separate part of the presentation addressed non-pharmacological support for patients. In particular, attention was paid to irrigation therapy, which helps cleanse the nasal mucosa of allergens and other particles and maintain its physiological state.

The presentation reviewed different types of saline solutions and their place in the comprehensive management of allergic rhinitis. Special mention was made of the properties of sea water, which contains a natural complex of minerals, as well as the importance of supporting the mucosa when it is dry and irritated.

In this context, Nasomer® was presented — a nasal spray based on sea water, hyaluronic acid and D-panthenol, made in Germany. The combination of these three ingredients is designed to cleanse and moisturize the nasal mucosa and to support its physiological state and natural repair mechanisms.

As part of elimination therapy, Nasomer® is used to cleanse the mucosa of allergens and support its protective functions, complementing the pharmacological control of allergic inflammation.

Basic therapy: intranasal corticosteroids

At the same time, mucosal support does not replace basic anti-inflammatory therapy. One of the key pharmacological approaches to controlling allergic rhinitis is the use of intranasal corticosteroids. Dr. Hohunska paid special attention to mometasone furoate — an intranasal corticosteroid with local anti-inflammatory action. Mometasone helps reduce inflammation and swelling of the mucosa and controls the main symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including nasal congestion, sneezing, itching and rhinorrhea.

Among the mometasone-based medicines available on the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market is Metaspray® by Valartin Pharma, made from high-quality Italian raw materials. The 140-dose bottle is convenient to use and can be a practical solution for long-term control of allergic rhinitis symptoms.

Modern management of allergic rhinitis involves a comprehensive approach that combines control of allergic inflammation, allergen elimination and support of the physiological state of the nasal mucosa. This approach makes it possible to address not only the symptoms of the disease but also the factors that affect the patient’s quality of life.

Valartin Pharma continues to support scientific and educational initiatives aimed at developing the professional medical community, implementing the principles of evidence-based medicine and improving the quality of patient care.
